
SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 53

McKenzie, Sprouse, Sharpe, Minard, Kessler, Edgell, Fanning,
Helmick, McCabe, Anderson, Bailey, Snyder, Plymale, Jackson,
Wooton, Craigo, Love and Tomblin, Mr. President)
Requesting the Joint Committee on Government and Finance study the
establishment of a comprehensive Alzheimer's caregiver program
to assist families in their efforts to obtain quality
diagnosis, care and treatment for the victims of Alzheimer's
disease.

Whereas, Alzheimer's disease and related disorders are
devastating health conditions that cause serious financial, social
and emotional hardships on the victims and their families; and

Whereas, The establishment of a program which promotes the
medical identification, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of
Alzheimer's victims and the related financial assistance to their
families should be developed; and

Whereas, Identification of potential revenue sources to
provide the resources necessary to successfully implement a program
that addresses the medical research and financial aspects of this
disease should be undertaken to assist the families of victims with Alzheimer's disease; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Joint Committee on Government and Finance is
requested to review, examine and study the creation of an
Alzheimer's caregiver assistance program to address possible
programmatic and financial solutions to help remedy the effects of
Alzheimer's disease on victims and their families; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Joint Committee on Government and
Finance report to the regular session of the Legislature, 2002, on
its findings, conclusions and recommendations, together with drafts
of any legislation necessary to effectuate its recommendations;
and, be it

Further Resolved, That the expenses necessary to conduct this
study, to prepare a report and to draft necessary legislation be
paid from legislative appropriations to the Joint Committee on
Government and Finance.
